A sharp overnight freeze could leave Spokane lawns, gardens and windshields coated in frost Tuesday morning. Temperatures are expected to plunge to 29 degrees early October 13, creating the week's most significant weather concern.
According to the National Weather Service forecast for Spokane, widespread frost is expected late Monday night into Tuesday morning. The freezing temperatures could damage unprotected plants and create additional morning preparation for drivers across the Spokane area.
The coldest conditions are expected around sunrise Tuesday, when temperatures could fall several degrees below freezing. Residents should protect sensitive vegetation, disconnect exposed garden hoses and allow extra time to clear frosted windshields.
Sunday begins with chilly conditions at Spokane's Felts Field, where temperatures were 45 degrees under overcast skies during the early morning update.
Afternoon temperatures should reach 53 degrees, with partly sunny skies and northeast winds gusting as high as 26 mph.
Sunday night brings the first round of frost concerns. Temperatures should fall to approximately 34 degrees, with areas of frost developing after 5 a.m. Monday.
Columbus Day on Monday, October 12, should bring sunshine and a high near 58 degrees. However, temperatures will drop rapidly overnight, reaching the forecast low of 29 degrees.
Tuesday afternoon offers some relief, with sunshine pushing temperatures to 62 degrees. Another chilly night follows, with lows near 35 degrees and additional frost possible.
Wednesday, October 14, brings mostly sunny skies and a high near 64 degrees after morning frost.
The five day outlook shows a gradual warming trend. Thursday reaches 67 degrees, followed by 71 degrees Friday. Saturday could climb to 88 degrees.
Residents should remain alert to freezing overnight temperatures through midweek, particularly those protecting gardens and other temperature sensitive plants.
