Spokane, WA — A Halloween party attended by more than 70 people turned violent early Sunday, Nov. 1, when gunfire erupted at a residence in Spokane County, leaving two men wounded and investigators searching for answers.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded around 1:45 a.m. to the 10300 block of East Upriver Drive after multiple callers reported hearing several gunshots. One caller reported that someone had been shot in the leg.
When deputies arrived, they discovered a large Halloween gathering where several people and vehicles were reportedly fleeing the area.
Deputies located an adult man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his leg. Officers provided initial medical assistance before he was transported to a hospital with injuries believed to be non life threatening.
During interviews, investigators learned that a second adult man had arrived at another hospital with a reported gunshot wound to his leg. Authorities said other individuals at the party transported him before deputies arrived.
Preliminary information suggests an argument escalated into gunfire, with investigators believing two shooters may have been involved.
Deputies recovered several spent shell casings, live ammunition and additional evidence from the scene.
Investigators reported difficulties gathering information from witnesses. While one individual identified himself as a gang member, authorities said many attendees claimed they had not witnessed the shooting or were uncooperative.
The Sheriff's Office emphasized that the shooting does not appear random and that there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
Major Crimes Detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identifying those responsible.
