Spokane, WA – Seven registered sex offenders were arrested during a coordinated law enforcement operation across Spokane County ahead of Halloween, as authorities conducted more than 60 compliance checks aimed at identifying registration violations and improving community safety.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff 's Office and U.S. Marshals Service, the weeklong effort was part of Operation Trick or Treat 4, a nationwide initiative focused on monitoring registered sex offenders before Halloween.
The operation involved the Sheriff's Office Sexual Assault Unit, Spokane Valley Police Department Investigative Unit and U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force.
Investigators checked residential addresses, employment information and compliance with state and federal registration requirements.
Authorities placed particular emphasis on sexually violent predators and Level III sex offenders released into the community.
Officials reported identifying more than five individuals suspected of violating registration requirements.
Seven registered sex offenders were arrested on charges involving failure to register, sex offenses and other violent criminal conduct.
Additional investigations are expected, with authorities indicating that further state or federal charges could follow.
"Our priority is the safety of our children. Every child deserves a safe Halloween," U.S. Marshal Craig Thayer said.
The operation comes as families across Spokane, Spokane Valley and surrounding communities prepare for Halloween activities Saturday, Oct. 31.
Operation Trick or Treat was established in 2023 to coordinate federal, state, local and tribal efforts targeting noncompliant and fugitive sex offenders.
Federal officials reported that more than 3,000 convicted sex offenders are registered throughout Eastern Washington.
Since 2006, the U.S. Marshals Service Eastern District of Washington has opened more than 580 federal sex offender investigations, resulting in over 95 federal convictions.
Authorities emphasized that compliance checks and follow up investigations remain part of ongoing efforts to enforce registration laws.
The participating agencies said they will continue working together to identify violations and protect communities throughout Spokane County and Eastern Washington.
