Spokane Valley, WA — Three teenagers were arrested following a late night vehicle prowling incident in Spokane Valley, where deputies pursued fleeing suspects with assistance from a sheriff's office aircraft.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, to the 16800 block of East Mission Parkway after a woman reported finding three males allegedly inside her vehicle.
The woman told authorities she scared the suspects away by remotely activating her vehicle's door locks. The three fled toward North Flora Road, and the victim followed while providing deputies with updates, despite being advised to keep her distance for safety.
The Spokane County Regional Air Support Unit's Air 2 aircraft located the suspects near Flora Road and Mission Avenue, allowing responding deputies to coordinate their approach.
When marked patrol vehicles arrived near Cataldo Avenue and Flora Road, two suspects fled on foot while a third was detained.
Authorities said a 17 year old allegedly grabbed at his waistband while running, prompting a deputy to warn that a Taser could be used if he continued fleeing. The teenager eventually complied and was taken into custody.
Meanwhile, Air 2 tracked a 14 year old suspect toward an apartment complex in the 17000 block of East Desmet Court.
Deputies established a perimeter and searched with assistance from Washington State Patrol troopers and Liberty Lake police officers but initially could not locate the teenager.
Around 1:05 a.m., deputies learned the remaining suspect had returned home. He was subsequently arrested.
The 17 year old faces vehicle prowling, theft, obstruction and underage cannabis possession charges. One 14 year old faces vehicle prowling and theft charges, while the other faces those charges plus resisting arrest.
All three suspects were juveniles, ages 14, 14 and 17.
