University of Washington researchers will study how humbug damselfish distinguish real threats from false alarms and coordinate their return to normal behavior. Using synchronized cameras, automated tracking and 3D reef mapping in the Maldives, the team will examine whether reef health and structural complexity shape communication. The findings could clarify how environmental decline affects collective fish behavior and reef communities.
