A University of Washington study finds coyote density in Seattle is nine times higher than in rural Washington, based on analysis of 842 scat samples identifying 213 animals. Abundant food, fewer predators and lower mortality make cities attractive habitat, though traffic and disease remain threats. The findings offer new insight into how urban growth is reshaping wildlife populations.
