Pierce County, WA – An 84 year old woman died after a two vehicle collision Monday at a busy Pierce County intersection, according to the Pierce County Sheriff ’s Office.
According to deputies, emergency crews responded at approximately 11:30 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Canyon Road East and 200th Street East for a reported two vehicle crash.
A preliminary investigation determined that a smaller sedan was traveling behind a semi truck that was attempting to make a left turn from Canyon Road East onto eastbound 200th Street East.
Investigators said the semi truck was making the turn while displaying a yellow left turn arrow.
At the same time, another vehicle was traveling northbound through the intersection on a green light, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said that northbound vehicle then collided with the smaller sedan that had been traveling behind the semi truck.
The driver of the sedan, identified only as an 84 year old woman, suffered life threatening injuries in the crash.
Emergency responders began transporting her to a hospital, but authorities said she died while en route.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately release additional information about the woman’s identity or whether anyone in the other vehicle suffered injuries.
Investigators also did not announce any citations or arrests in connection with the collision.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, and officials emphasized that the information released Monday was preliminary.
Drivers traveling through the Canyon Road East and 200th Street East area in Pierce County may have encountered emergency activity while deputies investigated and crews cleared the scene.
