Oak Harbor, WA – Deputies are searching for a driver after a pedestrian was struck from behind Tuesday morning near Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island, leaving a 39 year old man injured.
According to the Island County Sheriff ’s Office , the collision happened at approximately 10:31 a.m. Tuesday on Strawberry Point Road near Mariner Beach Road in the Oak Harbor area of Island County.
Investigators said the pedestrian was walking along Strawberry Point Road when a vehicle struck him from behind. The driver allegedly failed to stop after the collision and fled the scene.
The 39 year old man was transported to WhidbeyHealth Medical Center for treatment. Authorities described his injuries as non life threatening .
The sheriff’s office said the injured pedestrian was unable to provide investigators with a description of the vehicle involved, leaving deputies without publicly released identifying information about the vehicle or driver.
Authorities are now asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the crash to come forward.
Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from people who may have observed vehicles driving erratically near Strawberry Point Road and Mariner Beach Road or who have other information that could help identify the driver or vehicle.
