According to the Skagit County Sheriff 's Office, emergency dispatchers began receiving multiple calls from witnesses around 3:30 p.m. regarding a person who had fallen from the trail. The victim was identified as 66 year old Gary Idleburg.
Bystanders at the scene estimated the fall to be between 800 and 1,000 feet. Fellow hikers who witnessed the event were able to locate Mr.
Idleburg and guide responding fire personnel to his specific coordinates on the mountain. Despite the immediate initiation of life saving efforts by emergency teams, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
