College Place, WA – College Place High School was placed on lockdown Monday after authorities received a report of an impending threat against the school, triggering a major law enforcement response and extensive search of the campus.
According to the College Place Police Department , Walla Walla Emergency Service Communications received the threat report at approximately 12:02 p.m. Monday.
College Place officers responded alongside the Walla Walla Police Department, Walla Walla County Sheriff 's Office, Washington State Patrol and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The College Place Fire Department also responded.
Once on scene, officers worked with school officials to ensure students and staff were safe and secure. Police said the response included a lockdown followed by a systematic search of the high school and surrounding perimeter.
Investigators began examining the threat, which police said was quickly substantiated. Specific details about the calls will remain confidential while detectives conduct their investigation.
Police said the incident is believed to be connected to a swatting hoax, a false emergency report intended to generate a large law enforcement response.
College Place Public Works assisted officers by establishing barricades and road closures during the response.
Chief Tomaras said such incidents are taken seriously regardless of their apparent credibility, noting that false reports place significant strain on emergency resources.
