Wakefield, VA – A lingering offshore low pressure system will bring several days of breezy to windy conditions to eastern Virginia, with the strongest winds expected along the coast through Wednesday, October 21. Chilly overnight temperatures and Monday rain chances will add to the unsettled weather before a brief warmup arrives Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, low pressure lingering offshore will dominate the regional weather pattern through midweek, keeping coastal communities windier than inland locations.
Sunday brings chilly temperatures and coastal winds
Sunday, October 18, will feature mostly to partly sunny skies across eastern Virginia, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 59 to 63 degrees.
Winds will remain breezy to windy, particularly along the Atlantic coastline and Chesapeake Bay.
Overnight temperatures are expected to fall between 37 and 55 degrees, with the coldest readings occurring farther inland.
Communities near the water should experience milder overnight conditions.
Monday brings rain chances along the coast
Monday, October 19, will remain breezy across inland Virginia, while coastal communities face a greater chance of unsettled weather and rain.
Afternoon highs are expected between 62 and 66 degrees, with overnight lows ranging from 44 to 55 degrees.
The National Weather Service expects inland locations to remain dry through Wednesday, while coastal areas experience the greatest weather impacts.
Tuesday temperatures could approach 70 degrees
Tuesday, October 20, will bring a noticeable warmup, with afternoon highs reaching 65 to 70 degrees.
Mostly sunny skies are expected, although breezy to windy conditions will continue, especially near the coast.
By Wednesday, October 21, temperatures should settle between 61 and 67 degrees, with overnight lows ranging from 53 to 60 degrees.
The persistent offshore system means residents across Hampton Roads, the Virginia Peninsula and surrounding eastern Virginia communities should continue monitoring coastal forecasts.
Drivers traveling exposed bridges and coastal highways should remain alert for gusty conditions, while boaters should check marine forecasts before heading onto the water.
