Roanoke, VA – Temperatures will climb sharply across the Virginia foothills and Piedmont Thursday, Oct. 8, with highs reaching the low to mid 80s before a dry front brings slightly cooler weather Friday.
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg said dry conditions are expected through the rest of the week as temperatures continue to moderate Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday is identified as the warmest day in its three day outlook.
Wednesday will be sunny across the region. Highs are forecast in the low to mid 70s in the mountains and around the mid 70s across the foothills and Piedmont.
A more noticeable warmup arrives Thursday. Mostly sunny skies are expected, with temperatures climbing into the 70s in the mountains and the low to mid 80s across the foothills and Piedmont. Some light morning haze is possible.
That puts Thursday's warmest projected readings roughly 10 degrees above Wednesday's mid 70s temperatures across the foothills and Piedmont.
A dry front will move through Thursday night, but the NWS does not expect it to produce rain. Instead, its main effect will be a modest drop in temperatures Friday.
Friday will be partly sunny with passing afternoon clouds. Mountain highs are expected in the low to mid 70s, while the foothills and Piedmont reach the upper 70s to lower 80s.
No precipitation or hazardous weather is highlighted in the three day outlook. Residents should expect Thursday to bring the peak of the warming trend before temperatures ease by a few degrees behind the dry front Friday
