Roanoke, VA – Dry conditions and mostly clear skies are expected across the Roanoke region through Thursday, Oct. 8, with a steady warming trend pushing afternoon temperatures well above normal by Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, temperatures Thursday afternoon are expected to run 8 to 12 degrees above normal across the region. Abundant sunshine is expected during the three day period.
Tuesday starts somewhat cooler. Highs are forecast in the 60s across the mountains, while the Roanoke and Piedmont areas reach the lower 70s.
Temperatures climb Wednesday, with mountain communities reaching 70 to 75 degrees. The Roanoke and Piedmont areas are forecast to reach 76 to 80.
The warming trend peaks Thursday. Highs in the mountains are expected to reach the 70s, while Roanoke and Piedmont locations climb to between 80 and 85 degrees.
Despite the warming temperatures, no precipitation is indicated through Thursday. The NWS describes conditions as dry and tranquil, with mostly clear skies continuing across its forecast area.
The temperature ranges cover a region with significant differences in terrain and elevation, so individual communities will vary. The warmest readings shown in the outlook are focused on the Roanoke and Piedmont areas rather than the higher terrain.
Residents should expect sunshine and progressively warmer afternoons through Thursday, when temperatures are forecast to reach their highest levels of the three day outlook.
