Richmond, VA – Drivers across portions of Virginia could encounter patchy fog and low clouds Thursday morning, October 29, before improving conditions bring sunshine and afternoon temperatures reaching the middle 70s in inland communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, patchy fog and low stratus clouds developed early Thursday across Virginia's Piedmont region, southern Virginia and Northampton County, North Carolina. Forecasters expect those conditions to gradually dissipate by late morning.
Morning Fog Could Affect Travel
Low clouds and fog may create localized visibility concerns for drivers during the morning commute, especially in areas where fog becomes more concentrated.
Motorists should remain alert for changing conditions and allow additional time when traveling through fog prone locations.
The Weather Service expects the clouds and fog to give way to partly or mostly sunny skies by Thursday afternoon.
No widespread hazardous weather was identified in the agency's morning forecast.
Warm Temperatures Return Thursday
Afternoon highs will generally range from the upper 60s along the coast to the lower and middle 70s farther inland.
Communities around Richmond, Petersburg, Williamsburg and portions of southern Virginia are expected to experience mild conditions as sunshine develops.
Coastal communities, including areas near Norfolk and Virginia's Eastern Shore, should remain somewhat cooler, with temperatures generally in the 60s to lower 70s.
The improving weather should provide favorable conditions for afternoon travel, outdoor activities and fall events.
More Seasonal Weather Expected This Weekend
The National Weather Service expects temperatures to return closer to seasonal averages during the upcoming weekend, including Halloween on Saturday, October 31.
However, the supplied forecast does not specify weekend rainfall chances or exact Halloween evening temperatures.
Residents planning outdoor celebrations should check updated local forecasts as the weekend approaches.
