Richmond, VA – Residents across central and eastern Virginia can expect cooler mornings, breezy afternoons and mostly dry weather through Thursday, October 22, as an offshore low pressure system influences conditions along the Atlantic coast. Some inland communities could experience overnight temperatures dipping into the upper 30s.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, seasonably cool and dry conditions will dominate the region through midweek, with the strongest winds expected along coastal Virginia.
Tuesday, October 20, will bring sunshine and breezy conditions , with afternoon temperatures ranging from 68 to 73 degrees across the forecast area.
Wednesday, October 21, is expected to be the coolest day of the three day period, with highs ranging from 62 to 69 degrees.
While Richmond and other inland communities should remain mostly sunny, coastal locations, including Virginia Beach and portions of the Hampton Roads region, could experience increased cloud cover as offshore low pressure briefly moves closer to the coastline.
Overnight temperatures will provide a noticeable fall chill.
Forecasters expect lows generally ranging from the upper 30s to middle 40s inland, while communities closer to the Atlantic coast should remain milder, with temperatures in the 50s.
Residents heading out early may want jackets or additional layers, particularly in rural and inland locations where temperatures could approach the upper 30s.
By Thursday, October 22, sunshine is expected to return across much of the region, with afternoon highs recovering slightly to between 65 and 71 degrees.
Coastal winds remain the primary weather concern , particularly Wednesday, when the offshore system moves somewhat closer to Virginia.
Despite the nearby low pressure system, widespread rainfall is not expected in the forecast highlighted by the Weather Service.
Residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts, especially along the coast where wind conditions could change
