Richmond, VA – With November 2026 approaching, last year's weather records reveal how little snow fell across Virginia's capital during the same month. Richmond completed November 2025 without measurable snowfall, despite several freezing nights, placing the month among the lowest November snowfall totals in the city's historical records.
According to the National Weather Service's November 2025 climate summary for Richmond, the city recorded only a trace of snowfall, compared with a historical November normal of 0.6 inches. The total tied for the 22nd lowest November snowfall in the station's 139 year snowfall record.
November Brought No Measurable Snow Richmond's November 2025 snowfall observations show zero days with at least 0.1 inches of accumulation.
A trace means snow was observed but did not accumulate enough to register as a measurable amount.
Although Richmond has experienced accumulating November snow in previous years, none developed at the official observation station during November 2025.
The National Weather Service also reported no daily weather records broken or tied during the month.
Freezing Nights Still Occurred Richmond's average temperature was 50.4 degrees, approximately 0.9 degrees above normal.
The month's average high reached 61.7 degrees, while the average low was 39.1 degrees.
Temperatures climbed as high as 74 degrees and dropped to 22 degrees.
The National Weather Service recorded seven days with low temperatures at or below freezing.
Despite those colder nights, measurable snowfall never materialized.
The distinction demonstrates why freezing temperatures alone do not guarantee accumulating snow.
Precipitation must coincide with sufficiently cold atmospheric conditions for snowfall to develop.
Precipitation Also Finished Below Normal Richmond recorded 2.33 inches of precipitation during November 2025, compared with a historical normal of 3.06 inches.
That represents a deficit of 0.73 inches.
The report ranked the month as the 61st highest November precipitation total in 139 years.
Measurable precipitation occurred on eight days, with the largest daily amount reaching 0.63 inches.
What November 2025 Means for 2026 For residents across Richmond, Henrico County, Chesterfield County and surrounding Central Virginia communities, last November provides a reminder that early season snow is far from guaranteed.
However, the absence of measurable snowfall in November 2025 does not predict what will happen during November 2026.
Even relatively mild autumn weather can be interrupted by colder conditions when incoming weather systems arrive.
Richmond's historical November snowfall records demonstrate that accumulating snow is possible, although it remains less common than during the heart of winter.
As November 2026 approaches, will Richmond experience another month without measurable snowfall, or could colder weather bring an earlier taste of winter?
