Richmond, VA – Residents across central and eastern Virginia are preparing for an unusually warm stretch of October weather, with temperatures potentially climbing into the lower 90s Wednesday, October 14, before a cold front brings cooler conditions heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, temperatures will remain well above typical mid October levels through Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies and limited rainfall expected across much of the region.
Tuesday, October 13, will bring sunshine and warm afternoon temperatures, with highs generally ranging from 77 to 85 degrees across the forecast area.
The warmth intensifies Wednesday, October 14, when afternoon highs are expected to reach between 83 and 91 degrees. Some communities could approach or briefly exceed 90 degrees, making for an unusually hot mid October afternoon.
Areas around Richmond, Petersburg, Williamsburg and portions of eastern Virginia could experience the warmer conditions, although exact temperatures will vary by location.
A noticeable change arrives Thursday, October 15, as a cold front moves south across the region.
Increasing cloud cover will accompany the front, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 70 to 85 degrees depending on how quickly cooler air moves into individual communities.
A few light showers are possible as the front passes, but forecasters expect limited rainfall rather than widespread soaking precipitation.
The bigger temperature change is expected heading into Saturday, October 17, as cooler air settles across the region and brings more seasonable fall conditions.
Residents planning outdoor activities Wednesday should prepare for summerlike afternoon warmth, while those attending weekend events may want additional layers as temperatures trend downward.
Drivers and commuters should encounter generally favorable travel conditions through midweek, although isolated showers could briefly affect visibility Thursday.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor updated forecasts as the timing and strength of the approaching cold front become clearer.
