BLACKSBURG, Va. — A mild start to November will build across southwest Virginia through Tuesday, with Blacksburg approaching 70 degrees before a wetter pattern develops Wednesday night and Thursday.
The National Weather Service forecast for Blacksburg calls for a high near 62 Sunday, Nov. 1, followed by 64 Monday. Temperatures then rise to around 69 Tuesday, Nov. 3 , before easing slightly to 67 Wednesday and 68 Thursday.
Near 70° Tuesday Sunday is expected to remain mostly cloudy, while Monday turns partly sunny.
Tuesday becomes the clearest and warmest day in the current forecast, with sunshine and a high near 69. Light southerly winds develop during the afternoon.
The higher elevation still allows for noticeably cooler nights. Sunday night falls to around 45, followed by approximately 42 Monday night and 49 Tuesday night.
That makes the daytime warmth more notable: afternoon temperatures approach 70 even as overnight readings continue dropping into the 40s.
Rain Returns Nov. 4–6 Wednesday remains mostly cloudy with a high near 67 before rain chances increase overnight.
Showers become likely mainly after 1 a.m. Wednesday night, with a 60% precipitation chance and a low near 56.
Thursday becomes the wettest period in the current forecast. The Weather Service lists a 70% chance of showers with a high near 68. Rain chances decrease to 40% Thursday night and remain at 40% Friday, when temperatures stay mild near 67.
Friday night trends drier, followed by partly sunny skies and a high near 65 Saturday.
Mild November Pattern Could Continue The local forecast fits the broader November pattern across Virginia.
NOAA's November temperature outlook favors above normal temperatures across the Mid Atlantic, while the Climate Prediction Center's Nov. 8–14 outlook continues to favor a warmer than normal pattern across Virginia. The regional guidance identifies a warm first half of November as the primary extended weather story.
That does not mean every day will approach 70 degrees. Blacksburg's elevation can still support chilly nights, individual cold fronts and brief colder periods even when the broader average favors warmth.
For Blacksburg, the first week pattern is straightforward: 62 Sunday, 64 Monday, 69 Tuesday, then upper 60s Wednesday through Friday with rain returning Wednesday night and Thursday.
It remains too early for a specific Thanksgiving Day forecast on Nov. 26, but the warm November signal will be worth watching as southwest Virginia moves closer to Thanksgiving and the holiday travel season.
