Blacksburg, VA – Patchy frost could develop in mountain valleys Tuesday and Wednesday mornings as dry weather takes hold across southwest Virginia and nearby areas.
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg said Sunday that dry conditions will return for the upcoming week. The most notable concern is the potential for patchy frost in mountain locations on two consecutive mornings.
Before then, mainly cloudy skies and patchy fog are expected Sunday night, with lows ranging from 46 to 56 degrees. Patchy fog could linger into Monday morning before increasing sunshine develops.
Monday afternoon highs are forecast to reach 65 to 70 degrees in the mountains and 74 to 78 across the Piedmont.
By Tuesday morning, colder mountain valleys could experience patchy frost. Sunshine follows, with afternoon highs of 65 to 70 in the mountains and 68 to 73 across the Piedmont.
Another round of patchy mountain valley frost is possible Wednesday morning. Temperatures will then begin warming, with Wednesday highs of 72 to 75 in the mountains and 75 to 80 across the Piedmont.
The warming trend becomes more noticeable Thursday, Oct. 8. Sunny skies are forecast, with mountain highs reaching 71 to 76 degrees and Piedmont temperatures climbing to between 80 and 83.
The NWS described the frost potential as patchy and limited to mountain valleys rather than a widespread freeze across the region. No Frost Advisory or Freeze Warning is indicated in the provided outlook.
Residents in colder mountain valleys should watch updated forecasts for Tuesday and Wednesday mornings as forecasters refine the frost potential.
