WESTMORE, VT – Two men, two separate mysteries and one shared date. Vermont State Police are renewing attention on a missing person investigation and an unsolved homicide Monday, Nov. 2, as both cases reach significant anniversaries with questions still unanswered.
According to Vermont State Police, Christopher McCarthy, a 59 year old man from Westmore, was reported missing Nov. 2, 2017. Monday marks nine years since his disappearance, and authorities say he has had no contact with his family since.
Investigators do not suspect foul play in McCarthy's disappearance but remain concerned about his well being.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police Derby office at 802 334 8881 .
In a separate anniversary update, state police also revisited the unsolved homicide of Roger Jeffreys, whose remains were discovered in Glover, Vermont, on Nov. 2, 1985.
Jeffreys had previously been reported missing from Kentucky in 1984. His body was initially unidentified before investigators established his identity.
Authorities determined that Jeffreys' death was a homicide, but the investigation remains unsolved 41 years after his remains were discovered.
Both Westmore and Glover are located in Orleans County in northeastern Vermont, although police have not indicated any connection between the two investigations.
The anniversary announcements highlight the continued efforts to gather information about cases that have remained unresolved for years.
State police are encouraging anyone who may have information about Jeffreys' death to contact the department's Major Crimes Unit through its unsolved homicide resources.
Information about the investigation is available at vsp.vermont.gov/unsolved/homicide .
As another November 2 passes, investigators are reminding the public that information, even years after an incident, could help provide answers to families still waiting for them.
