Burlington, VT – Vermont residents can expect improving weather conditions Monday, October 12, as overnight rain moves out of much of the region, leaving behind a mostly dry day with temperatures climbing into the 50s and 60s. However, sunshine will be uneven, with northern communities facing considerably more cloud cover.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Burlington, most rainfall is expected to end before the day begins, although northern areas will remain relatively dreary. Temperatures should stay near seasonal averages across much of the region, with some southern locations warming above normal where sunshine develops.
Northern Vermont will see the greatest cloud coverage Monday. Areas around Burlington, St. Albans and communities closer to the Canadian border could experience mostly cloudy skies through the afternoon.
The NWS midday sky cover forecast indicates cloud coverage approaching 75% to 90% across several northern locations, limiting opportunities for sunshine.
Farther south, conditions are expected to improve.
Communities across southern Vermont, including portions of Rutland and Windsor counties, could see more breaks in the clouds, allowing temperatures to climb into the middle and upper 60s.
Monday's forecast highs generally range from the upper 50s to upper 60s , with some of the warmest readings expected in southern valleys and lower elevations.
For residents traveling along Interstate 89, Interstate 91 and Route 7, the departure of widespread rain should provide generally improving conditions during the day. However, lingering wet pavement may remain in locations that received overnight rainfall.
Outdoor activities may be more favorable across southern Vermont, where additional sunshine is expected compared with northern communities.
The forecast also covers portions of northern New York, including the Adirondack region, where mostly cloudy conditions are expected in several locations.
