Burlington, VT – Several days of wet weather have left parts of Vermont and northern New York soaked, with storm rainfall totals exceeding 3 inches in one reported location and more than 2 inches in numerous other areas, according to new National Weather Service data released Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service office in Burlington, rainfall measurements collected over the past 48 hours show widespread precipitation across the North Country and Vermont through Wednesday, Oct. 14.
The agency's storm total rainfall map indicates that much of northern New York and northern Vermont received between 1 and 2 inches of rain.
Several locations recorded higher amounts.
The largest value displayed on the map was 3.09 inches in northern New York, while additional reports included 2.86, 2.64, 2.62 and 2.58 inches in portions of the region.
Other areas reported totals of approximately 2.49, 2.42 and 2.28 inches.
Rainfall was not evenly distributed.
Parts of southern Vermont received less than an inch, with some observations ranging between approximately 0.25 and 0.75 inches.
The Burlington weather office said its map was developed using rainfall reports from weather observers, storm spotters, members of the public, media outlets and state and local officials.
The agency cautioned that the map represents an interpolation of reported measurements and should be considered an estimate rather than an exact rainfall total for every location.
The higher amounts were concentrated in portions of northern New York and northern Vermont, while lighter totals appeared across several southern communities.
Although the rainfall measurements show substantial precipitation, the provided update did not identify specific flooding incidents, road closures or damage associated with the storm.
Residents should continue monitoring local weather information for any additional rainfall or flooding concerns.
