Burlington, VT – Rain chances will increase across northern Vermont and portions of northern New York on Tuesday, Nov. 3, as a weak weather system moves through the region, bringing scattered showers before a potentially wetter pattern develops later this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a weak wave of low pressure will bring increasing chances of rain Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night, particularly across communities closer to the Canadian border.
Forecasters expect most locations receiving rain to see relatively light amounts, generally less than one tenth of an inch.
Tuesday Showers Focused on Northern Communities
Areas including St. Albans, Newport, Burlington and communities across northern Vermont could experience scattered showers as the system moves through.
Across northern New York, locations such as Plattsburgh and Malone also face increasing precipitation chances.
The National Weather Service forecast shows some of the highest Tuesday afternoon rain probabilities near the international border, with selected northern communities reaching approximately 50% to 70%.
Farther south, including portions of central and southern Vermont, rain chances remain lower, with several locations expected to receive little or no precipitation.
Wetter Weather Expected Thursday and Friday
Although Tuesday's showers should produce limited rainfall, forecasters are monitoring a more widespread wet weather pattern expected Thursday, Nov. 5, into Friday, Nov. 6.
The National Weather Service indicates that this later system has a better chance of delivering widespread measurable rainfall across the region.
Specific rainfall totals for the late week system were not provided in the latest update.
What Drivers Should Expect
Motorists traveling Interstate 89, Interstate 91 and Interstate 87 in northern New York may encounter occasional wet pavement and reduced visibility during passing showers Tuesday.
However, widespread flooding or significant rainfall impacts are not indicated in the Tuesday forecast.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts as the Thursday Friday system approaches, particularly for changes in rainfall timing and coverage.
