San Antonio, TX – A cooler, wetter weather pattern is heading toward South Central Texas this weekend, bringing increasing rain chances Saturday and Sunday, with some communities facing a risk of excessive rainfall and localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio office, showers are expected to become more widespread through the weekend, while afternoon temperatures drop from the 70s and lower 80s into the 60s across much of the region.
Rain chances increase sharply Saturday and Sunday.
Forecasters expect scattered showers Saturday, followed by a greater likelihood of rainfall Sunday.
The National Weather Service forecast shows rain chances reaching 80% in San Antonio on Sunday, 60% in Austin and 75% in New Braunfels.
Some Hill Country communities face even higher probabilities, including Kerrville and Rocksprings at 95%, while Del Rio and Eagle Pass reach 100%.
These percentages represent the likelihood of measurable precipitation, not the amount of rainfall expected.
A localized flooding threat accompanies the weekend rain.
The National Weather Service has identified a Marginal Risk, Level 1 of 4, for excessive rainfall across portions of South Central Texas.
This means isolated flooding is possible, particularly in locations that experience heavier or repeated downpours.
Drivers should remain cautious around low water crossings, flood prone roads and areas where runoff can accumulate quickly.
Residents should never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
Temperatures also take a noticeable dip.
San Antonio is forecast to reach 77 degrees Friday before cooling to 72 Saturday and 65 Sunday.
Austin will see a similar trend, dropping from 77 Friday to 66 Sunday.
Some Hill Country locations could struggle to reach 60 degrees Sunday.
The unsettled pattern may continue Monday before rain chances decrease and temperatures gradually rebound next week.
