Lubbock, TX – Cooler weather has settled across West Texas Saturday, October 17, with afternoon temperatures expected to reach only around 60 degrees in Lubbock. Residents across the South Plains can expect a noticeably cooler day, although sunshine and light winds should make outdoor conditions comfortable.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, temperatures Saturday will remain in the upper 50s to lower 60s across much of the region. Mostly clear skies and relatively light winds are expected throughout the day.
Lubbock is forecast to reach 60 degrees, while nearby Plainview and Brownfield are expected to top out around 59 degrees. Childress and Aspermont should reach 60 degrees, with Friona slightly warmer at 62 degrees.
The cooler conditions follow a shift in the regional weather pattern, bringing a fall like feel to communities across the South Plains, Rolling Plains and surrounding areas.
Despite the lower temperatures, Saturday is expected to offer favorable conditions for outdoor activities, including sporting events, shopping and weekend travel.
Unlike recent periods of stronger winds across West Texas, the latest forecast emphasizes light winds and sunshine, with no significant weather disruptions highlighted in Saturday morning's outlook.
Residents heading outdoors early or remaining outside after sunset may want an additional layer as temperatures cool.
October 22–26 Extended Weather Outlook
Looking toward the following week, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center favors above normal temperatures across West Texas during October 22–26.
This suggests the cooler weekend pattern may give way to a broader warming trend later in the month, although the outlook does not specify exact daily temperatures.
The precipitation outlook also favors above normal rainfall across much of West Texas and the southern High Plains during the same period.
That does not guarantee rain in Lubbock on any particular day, but it indicates an increased likelihood of a wetter than normal pattern during the six to 10 day period.
Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts as the extended outlook approaches.
