Austin, TX – Rain chances will linger across South Central Texas this weekend before drier weather arrives Monday, followed by cooler mornings in parts of the Hill Country.
According to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio, showers and a few thunderstorms remained possible Friday night, Oct. 2, with the highest rain chances west of Interstate 35. Brief downpours were possible, while overnight lows were expected to range from the lower 60s to lower 70s.
Rain chances continue Saturday and Sunday but vary considerably across the region. The NWS forecast showed Saturday precipitation chances ranging from 20% in New Braunfels to 80% in Llano. Chances included 40% in Austin and San Antonio, 60% in Fredericksburg and 70% in Eagle Pass and Uvalde.
Sunday rain chances generally decrease, with Austin and San Antonio at 40%, Fredericksburg at 40% and Del Rio at 25%. Most locations fall to 15% or less Monday as drier weather takes hold.
Temperatures remain warm through the weekend. Austin is forecast to reach 83 degrees Saturday and Sunday, while San Antonio is expected to reach 83 Saturday and 82 Sunday.
A more noticeable change could arrive during the middle of next week, especially during the early morning hours. The NWS said portions of the Hill Country could fall into the 50s for the first time since May.
Forecast lows Wednesday include 59 degrees at Fredericksburg and Rocksprings and 59 at Llano, while Austin is forecast to reach 64.
Residents should expect scattered weekend rain, especially west of I 35, before generally drier conditions Monday and potentially cooler mornings later in the week.
