FORT WORTH, TX – Residents across North and Central Texas face powerful wind gusts Friday, October 16, as a Wind Advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Sustained north winds of 20 to 30 mph could produce peak gusts reaching 50 mph, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and potentially blowing unsecured outdoor objects around.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the strongest winds are expected throughout Friday before gradually diminishing late this evening and overnight.
The Dallas Fort Worth metropolitan area is among the locations facing particularly strong gusts , with the forecast indicating peak winds around 46 mph. Waco could experience gusts near 41 mph, while Killeen and Corsicana could see gusts around 40 mph.
Other communities, including Stephenville, Mineral Wells, Sherman, Denison and surrounding areas, can also expect blustery conditions.
The strong north winds could make driving difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles such as tractor trailers, recreational vehicles and large vans.
Boating conditions on area lakes may also become hazardous for small watercraft , according to the National Weather Service.
Residents are encouraged to secure lightweight patio furniture, trash containers, decorations and other outdoor objects that could be blown around.
Drivers should use additional caution on exposed highways, bridges and open stretches of roadway where sudden crosswinds could affect vehicle control.
Conditions are expected to improve Friday night as the strongest winds gradually subside.
Looking ahead, a sunny and cooler weekend is forecast across much of North and Central Texas.
Dallas Fort Worth temperatures are expected to reach approximately 65 degrees Saturday and 69 degrees Sunday, with morning lows in the 40s.
Waco, Temple and Killeen can expect highs generally in the upper 60s Saturday and near 71 degrees Sunday.
Temperatures are forecast to warm again next week.
