Fort Worth, TX – Triple digit heat will continue across North Texas Thursday as scattered thunderstorms threaten parts of the region, bringing the potential for gusty winds, locally heavy rain and frequent lightning.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texoma and portions of North Texas northeast of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex have a 40% to 60% chance of thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening. More isolated storms are possible farther southwest.
Sherman could reach 99 degrees Thursday, while Dallas Fort Worth is forecast to hit around 100. Graham could climb to 101, with Waco near 99, Canton around 98 and Palestine near 97.
Forecasters said high temperatures across the broader region will range from the upper 90s to as high as 103 degrees through the weekend.
Thursday& 39;s thunderstorms could produce gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall and frequent lightning. The Weather Service is urging boaters to be prepared to seek shelter quickly if storms approach and reminding drivers never to cross flooded roads.
Some rain chances could linger into Friday afternoon, particularly around the Sherman and Denison area, but most locations are expected to remain dry during the weekend.
The heat, however, is not going anywhere.
Dallas Fort Worth is forecast to reach around 99 degrees Friday before hitting 100 Saturday and Sunday. Sherman and Denison could also reach 100 Saturday, while the Waco, Temple and Killeen area is expected to remain near the upper 90s to 100 through the weekend.
Residents should monitor Thursday& 39;s forecast closely, especially across Texoma and communities northeast of Dallas Fort Worth where storm coverage is expected to be greatest.
