Fort Worth, TX – Millions of North Texas residents could face thunderstorms and potentially severe weather Monday night, November 2, as a cold front pushes across the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex and surrounding communities, bringing threats of damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth's 2:10 a.m. Monday update, showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight through Tuesday morning as an upper level storm system and surface cold front move across the region. A few storms could become severe.
When Will Storms Reach North Texas? The NWS identifies three primary timing windows as storms develop and move eastward.
6 p.m.–1 a.m.: Storms could begin affecting western and northern portions of North Texas, including areas near Graham and the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. The highest storm chances are expected between 8 p.m. and midnight.
10 p.m.–6 a.m.: Storm chances shift farther south and east, including communities near Waco and Canton. The most likely period is midnight through 4 a.m. Tuesday.
3–10 a.m. Tuesday: Eastern communities, including areas near Palestine, face their greatest storm chances between 4 and 8 a.m.
Not every community will experience thunderstorms, and the forecast windows represent periods when residents should pay the closest attention.
Damaging Winds and Hail Possible The NWS identifies damaging winds, large hail and the possibility of a tornado or two as the primary severe weather threats.
Overnight storms could create hazardous driving conditions, particularly during Tuesday's early morning commute.
Residents should enable weather alerts before going to sleep and have a safe indoor shelter location identified.
Conditions are expected to improve Tuesday afternoon and evening as cooler, drier air moves into North Texas behind the cold front.
