Fort Worth, TX – Drivers across North Texas are being encouraged to prepare their vehicles for winter weather before cold, icy conditions enter the forecast.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth shared the reminder as part of National Preparedness Month, urging motorists not to wait for an approaching winter weather event before checking their vehicles and assembling emergency supplies.
The agency recommends inspecting tires and replacing them when necessary. Drivers should also keep jumper cables, a flashlight, an ice scraper with a brush and a tow rope in their vehicles.
Emergency and comfort supplies are also recommended. The NWS checklist includes a first aid kit, cellphone charger, blankets, warm clothing, bottled water and snacks.
“Don’t wait until winter weather is in the forecast to prepare your vehicle,” the Fort Worth office said in its social media post.
The accompanying NWS graphic advises motorists to fully check and winterize their vehicles before the winter season begins. The message is a preparedness reminder rather than a forecast or winter weather alert for a specific upcoming event.
Winter precipitation can create slick roads and leave motorists stranded when travel conditions deteriorate. Preparing supplies in advance gives drivers equipment they may need if cold or icy weather affects travel later in the season.
