Del Rio, TX — Heavy rainfall could trigger isolated flash flooding across portions of South Central Texas beginning Thursday, Oct. 29, and continuing into Friday morning, Oct. 30, as tropical moisture moves into the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin San Antonio, showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall are expected to develop across portions of the southern Edwards Plateau and Rio Grande corridor.
Forecasters have identified up to a Level 2 of 4 excessive rainfall risk, classified as Slight, across portions of the region.
The greatest flooding concern is concentrated along the Rio Grande and southern Edwards Plateau , including areas around Del Rio, Uvalde and Rocksprings.
The National Weather Service indicates that the risk decreases farther east, with portions of the San Antonio region included in a lower, Level 1 Marginal Risk area.
The primary period of concern extends from Thursday into Friday morning, when thunderstorms could produce localized heavy rainfall.
Flash Flooding Possible in Vulnerable Areas
Forecasters warn that intense rainfall could overwhelm low water crossings, drainage systems and flood prone roadways, potentially creating dangerous travel conditions.
Even isolated heavy thunderstorms can produce rapidly rising water in parts of South Central Texas, particularly along creeks, washes and normally dry drainage channels.
Drivers traveling along U.S. Highway 90, U.S. Highway 83 and other regional roads should remain alert for changing conditions.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to monitor official weather alerts throughout the Thursday to Friday period.
The National Weather Service emphasizes that isolated flash flooding is possible, but widespread flooding is not currently forecast in the supplied outlook.
Rainfall amounts and the precise locations of the heaviest storms remain uncertain.
Residents across Del Rio, Uvalde, San Antonio and surrounding communities should monitor forecast updates as tropical moisture approaches.
