Corpus Christi, TX – Beachgoers along the South Texas coast face a moderate risk of dangerous rip currents Thursday, Oct. 29, as the National Weather Service urges swimmers to exercise caution near beaches, piers and jetties.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, partly sunny skies and temperatures around 80 degrees are expected along the coast Thursday, with easterly winds of 10 to 15 mph and waves reaching approximately 3 feet.
Water temperatures remain in the upper 70s, but forecasters warn that rip currents could create hazardous swimming conditions, particularly near structures extending into the Gulf.
A moderate rip current risk means dangerous currents are possible, especially around piers and jetties.
The Weather Service advises anyone caught in a rip current not to fight against the flow. Instead, swimmers should move parallel to shore until they escape the current, then return toward the beach.
Meanwhile, the broader South Texas forecast calls for a warm Halloween weekend with limited rainfall.
Friday, October 30, brings a 15% to 45% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with highs ranging from 80 to 86 degrees.
Halloween Saturday will feature highs of 83 to 88 degrees, with a 25% rain chance mainly across northeastern portions of the forecast area.
Sunday looks mostly dry, with afternoon temperatures reaching 82 to 90 degrees.
By Monday, November 2, temperatures could climb as high as 92 degrees in some inland locations, while most communities remain dry.
Another weather change is possible Tuesday, November 3, when an approaching cold front brings a 20% to 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Residents planning beach trips or outdoor Halloween activities should monitor updated forecasts and local beach safety information.
While the weekend weather appears favorable for many outdoor plans, swimmers should remain alert to changing surf conditions and posted warnings.
