Corpus Christi, TX – South Texas residents should prepare for a potentially stormy weekend as heavy rainfall moves into the region, bringing an increased threat of localized flooding Sunday, November 8, with some communities potentially receiving as much as 4 inches of rain.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 2.5 inches are expected across the region, while isolated locations could receive 3 to 4 inches.
The Weather Prediction Center has placed portions of South Texas under a Level 2 of 4, or slight risk, for excessive rainfall Sunday.
That designation indicates at least a 15% chance of rainfall exceeding flash flood guidance within approximately 25 miles of a location.
The highlighted risk area includes portions of the Coastal Bend and inland South Texas, including areas near Alice, Kingsville, Freer, Cotulla and George West.
Corpus Christi and nearby coastal communities are also expected to experience increasing rain chances, although the highest excessive rainfall risk is concentrated farther inland.
Rain chances begin increasing Saturday, ranging from 15% to 55%, with afternoon temperatures reaching the middle 70s to around 80 degrees.
Sunday brings the greatest concern.
Rain probabilities climb to 60% to 80%, with the highest chances focused across western portions of the forecast region.
Heavy downpours could produce localized street flooding, especially in low lying neighborhoods, poorly drained roads and locations that receive repeated rainfall.
Motorists should avoid driving through flooded roadways and allow additional travel time during heavier showers.
Temperatures will also fall noticeably Sunday, with afternoon highs ranging from 66 to 73 degrees.
Unsettled weather continues Monday, when rain chances remain between 50% and 70% and highs range from 65 to 69 degrees.
Drier conditions are expected Tuesday, with rain chances dropping to approximately 20%.
By Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, temperatures should recover into the middle 70s.
