San Antonio, TX – Residents across South Central Texas are facing another stretch of unusually hot October weather, with temperatures approaching 100 degrees in some communities around Columbus Day before a cold front brings cooler conditions by the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service Austin San Antonio office, warm and humid weather will persist through midweek, with afternoon highs ranging from the mid 80s to upper 90s. Rain chances will initially focus along and east of Interstate 35 before expanding with an approaching cold front later in the week.
Columbus Day Heat Approaches 100 Degrees
Monday, Oct. 12, will bring widespread temperatures in the 90s, including forecast highs of 92 degrees in Austin and San Antonio.
Del Rio and Eagle Pass are expected to reach 93 and 95 degrees, respectively, while Uvalde could also climb to 95 degrees.
Temperatures will rise further Tuesday, with Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde forecast to reach 98 degrees.
Austin and San Antonio could reach 95 degrees Tuesday, while New Braunfels is expected to climb to 94 degrees.
Cold Front Brings Major Temperature Change
A cold front arriving late in the week will bring additional scattered rain chances before noticeably cooler and drier conditions develop Friday through the weekend.
Austin's forecast high drops from 94 degrees Wednesday to 75 degrees Saturday.
San Antonio will experience a similar change, falling from 93 degrees Wednesday to 75 degrees Saturday.
Hill Country communities could see an even stronger cooldown, with Fredericksburg dropping from 90 degrees Wednesday to 69 degrees Saturday.
Rain Chances Increase Before Weekend
Rain chances will vary by location throughout the week.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 50% chance of rain in New Braunfels Wednesday and a 50% chance in Del Rio Thursday.
By Sunday, Oct. 18, morning lows could reach 57 degrees in Austin and 59 degrees in San Antonio.
Residents should prepare for continued hot afternoons early in the week, followed by cooler mornings and more comfortable conditions next weekend.
