Amarillo, TX – Rain and thunderstorm chances will return to the Texas Panhandle early next week after several more days of warm, predominantly dry weather, with precipitation chances beginning Monday night and increasing Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, temperatures will remain fairly steady across the Panhandles during the next seven days. Daytime highs are forecast generally from 80 to 90 degrees Wednesday through Monday.
The weekend will bring another change as winds increase. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be breezy, and gusts could reach around 30 mph. Monday is also forecast to remain breezy.
Despite the increasing winds, the NWS outlook keeps the region dry through most of Monday. Overnight lows generally range through the 50s and 60s, with Sunday night potentially staying as warm as 70 degrees in some locations.
The next opportunity for precipitation arrives Monday night, when the NWS shows a 20% to 30% chance of rain.
Chances increase Tuesday to 20% to 40%, with thunderstorms possible. Tuesday night carries a 30% to 50% precipitation chance. The NWS graphic does not indicate that severe thunderstorms are expected or provide potential rainfall totals.
The arrival of rain chances also coincides with somewhat cooler daytime temperatures. Tuesday's highs are forecast between 75 and 85 degrees, compared with the 80 to 90 degree range expected during the preceding several days.
Residents should expect warm and mainly dry conditions through the weekend, with increasingly breezy weather beginning Saturday. Attention then turns to Monday night and Tuesday as rain and thunderstorm chances return to the Panhandles.
