Amarillo, TX – Rain showers that moved across the Texas Panhandle Saturday morning, Oct. 24, have largely diminished or shifted away, but another round of precipitation could develop in far western portions of the region after midnight Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, most of the earlier rainfall has ended, with only a few scattered light showers remaining across western portions of the Texas Panhandle and nearby Oklahoma Panhandle communities.
Forecasters expect most precipitation Saturday afternoon and evening to remain across New Mexico, although rain chances will increase again in far western Texas after midnight.
The latest radar update shows isolated showers west of Amarillo, including activity near Vega and portions of the western Panhandle.
Additional light showers were also noted across Cimarron and Texas counties in the Oklahoma Panhandle.
The National Weather Service indicated that only a few light showers were expected to remain through Saturday afternoon, with the majority of precipitation shifting farther west.
Rain Chances Increase Again Overnight
While much of the Texas Panhandle should experience a quieter afternoon and evening, residents in far western areas could see additional rainfall developing overnight into Sunday, Oct. 25.
The weather service specifically highlighted increasing chances for more significant rainfall after midnight in far western Texas.
However, the update did not provide specific rainfall totals, precipitation probabilities or exact arrival times for individual communities.
Drivers traveling through western Panhandle communities overnight should remain alert for changing road conditions if additional showers develop.
The National Weather Service's afternoon radar update was valid through 4 p.m. Saturday, meaning conditions could change later in the evening.
Residents across Amarillo, Vega, Hereford, Dalhart and surrounding communities should continue monitoring local forecasts as the overnight weather pattern develops.
