Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle should prepare to turn their clocks back one hour Saturday night, October 31, as daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 1, giving households an additional hour overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, standard time officially returns Sunday morning, and residents are encouraged to adjust clocks before going to bed Saturday night.
At exactly 2 a.m. Sunday, clocks will move backward to 1 a.m., marking the transition from Central Daylight Time to Central Standard Time.
The change affects communities throughout the Texas Panhandle, including Amarillo, Canyon, Borger, Pampa, Dumas and surrounding areas.
Most smartphones, computers and internet connected devices will automatically update. However, traditional clocks, vehicle dashboards, ovens, microwaves and other household appliances may require manual adjustments.
The National Weather Service is also reminding residents to use the seasonal time change as an opportunity to check batteries in smoke detectors and NOAA Weather Radios.
Ensuring these devices are working properly can help families remain prepared for fire emergencies and potentially dangerous weather conditions.
The return to standard time will bring earlier sunrises and earlier sunsets, shifting available daylight toward the morning hours.
For commuters, that means darker conditions during late afternoon and early evening travel beginning Sunday.
Drivers should remain alert for pedestrians and changing visibility conditions, particularly near intersections, schools and residential neighborhoods.
The time change also provides an opportunity for households to review emergency supplies and confirm that weather alert devices are functioning correctly.
Daylight saving time will resume Sunday, March 14, 2027, when clocks move forward one hour.
For now, Texas Panhandle residents should remember to set manually operated clocks back Saturday night and enjoy the extra hour overnight.
