Nashville, TN – Thanksgiving travelers across Tennessee could see favorable conditions for holiday road trips as a new long range outlook favors mild weather and possible sunshine. Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga are among the cities watching conditions ahead of Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 26.
According to the Farmers' Almanac's Oct. 19 update, its Southeast forecast region favors generally mild, pleasant weather from Monday, Nov. 23, through Thanksgiving Day, with sunshine and a good chance of dry conditions.
Tennessee is explicitly included in the publication's Southeast region, which is not identified as a primary area for Thanksgiving snowfall.
The Almanac does not provide city specific temperatures, daily precipitation probabilities or snowfall predictions for Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville or other Tennessee communities.
Geography remains important across the state.
Memphis and western Tennessee generally experience different late autumn conditions than Knoxville and communities near the Great Smoky Mountains, where higher elevations can turn colder.
Nashville and Middle Tennessee can experience occasional November cold spells, while elevated areas around Gatlinburg and the Cumberland Plateau may encounter winter weather earlier than lower valleys.
However, the latest regional outlook does not establish a Thanksgiving snow threat for Tennessee.
NOAA's November outlook favors above normal precipitation in portions of the Southeast, with probabilities reaching 60% to 70% in some areas.
Those percentages describe the likelihood of a wetter than normal month, not the chance of rain in Nashville or Memphis on Thanksgiving Day.
Looking beyond the holiday, NOAA's winter 2026 27 outlook favors wetter conditions across the South from December through February.
That seasonal pattern does not establish whether Tennessee will experience snowstorms. Accumulating snow requires sufficiently cold temperatures alongside available moisture.
For Thanksgiving travelers, I 40 connecting Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville, I 24 between Nashville and Chattanooga, and I 75 through eastern Tennessee are important routes to monitor.
Could Tennessee see snow before Thanksgiving 2026? Snow is historically possible, particularly at higher elevations, but the supplied Farmers' Almanac outlook favors mild, generally favorable holiday conditions instead.
Travelers should check National Weather Service forecasts closer to departure for updated temperatures, rainfall chances and road conditions.
