Nashville, TN – A 35 year old woman was killed and another woman was wounded after gunfire erupted during an apparent large fight involving several women in Nashville Sunday night, police said.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department , the shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of University Court. Police identified the woman who died as Shalethia Horton, 35, of Nashville.
Homicide detectives reviewed surveillance video from the area and said the footage appears to show shots being fired from a suspect vehicle during the incident.
Horton was struck by gunfire and transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
Police said a second woman, 32, was also struck by gunfire. She is expected to recover. Authorities did not release her identity or provide additional details about her injuries.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the sequence of events that led to the deadly shooting. Investigators are also working to determine a motive and confirm the involvement of the suspected vehicle seen in surveillance footage.
No arrests or suspect descriptions were announced in the department's Monday update.
Police are asking anyone with information about Horton's killing to contact Crime Stoppers at 615 742 7463. Authorities said callers can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 in homicide cases.
The investigation remains active, and additional information could be released as detectives determine what led to the gunfire.
