Nashville, TN – A 22 year old man who was shot by a security guard outside Nashville's Greyhound bus station Sunday morning is expected to be arrested after leaving the hospital, following an alleged assault involving hot coffee and a physical confrontation captured on surveillance video.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in an October 25 release, the shooting occurred around 7:25 a.m. outside the Greyhound terminal.
Police identified the injured man as Jacory McIntosh, 22, who was recovering from gunshot wounds to his hip and leg.
Investigators said McIntosh allegedly approached security guard Douglas West, 39, and threw hot coffee into his face before physically attacking him.
West told detectives he had instructed McIntosh to leave the bus station approximately 45 minutes before the confrontation.
According to police, West was speaking with a co worker when McIntosh allegedly returned, threw the coffee and began striking him.
During the struggle, West was knocked to the ground twice.
Police said McIntosh allegedly picked up a firearm magazine that had fallen from West's security vest and used it to strike the guard in the head.
West also reported that McIntosh threatened to kill him.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that reportedly captured the entire incident.
Police said the video showed McIntosh throwing coffee, charging toward West twice and punching him while the guard was on the ground.
After West stood up a second time and drew his firearm, investigators said McIntosh made another slight movement toward him, at which point West opened fire.
West sustained burns and contusions to his face and head.
Authorities said McIntosh will be arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault upon discharge from the hospital.
Police did not announce a hospital release date or additional charges in the statement.
The investigation details were released Sunday by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
