Nashville, TN – A 59 year old woman critically injured in a weekend hit and run crash in Nashville has died, prompting authorities to pursue upgraded charges against a 19 year old driver accused of leaving the scene.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department , Andrea Orr, 59, of Nashville, was struck Saturday, Oct. 24, at approximately 5:50 p.m. while crossing the intersection of Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard and Buchanan Street.
Investigators say Orr was in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle allegedly driven by Danielle McKell, 19.
Police reported that McKell left the scene after she and other individuals in the area moved Orr onto the sidewalk.
Despite the crash occurring shortly before 6 p.m., officers were not flagged down until approximately 10:40 p.m., several hours later.
Orr was subsequently transported to St. Thomas Midtown Hospital with critical injuries.
Police confirmed Tuesday that Orr died from those injuries.
An investigation conducted by Traffic Division Officer Christopher Augustin led authorities to identify McKell as the driver Monday, Oct. 26.
Police said McKell has been issued two state citations alleging leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, resulting in serious injury.
Following Orr's death, investigators have been working with the Davidson County District Attorney's Office regarding upgraded charges.
Authorities indicated that the charges are expected to be upgraded in the near future, although the specific additional offenses have not been announced.
The fatal crash occurred in Nashville's North Precinct area and remains the subject of a police investigation.
The case highlights the serious consequences of pedestrian collisions, particularly when a driver leaves the scene before emergency responders arrive.
The allegations against McKell have not been adjudicated, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
