Nashville, TN – Two people were killed early Saturday morning after a speeding car ran a red light, later overturned and burst into flames along Blue Hole Road in southeastern Nashville. Police had attempted to stop the vehicle shortly before the deadly crash.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department , the single vehicle crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, near Antioch Park Community Center in Davidson County.
Two Southeast Precinct officers initially observed a black Infiniti sedan traveling at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light at Blue Hole Road and Bell Road.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but were unsuccessful.
Vehicle Found Overturned and Burning A short time later, authorities located the Infiniti in a wooded area near Antioch Park Community Center, where it had overturned and caught fire.
Nashville Fire Department crews extinguished the flames and discovered two deceased individuals inside the vehicle.
Investigators believe the Infiniti crested a hill before the driver lost control.
The sedan crossed the double yellow centerlines into opposing traffic, left the roadway and struck a tree before coming to rest upside down in the woods.
The vehicle subsequently became engulfed in flames.
Authorities Working to Identify Victims The identities of the two people killed have not yet been established in the initial police announcement.
The Medical Examiner's Office will assist investigators in identifying both individuals.
Police said the extensive fire damage prevented officers from determining the Infiniti's ownership information at the scene.
The department's Traffic Division is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities have not confirmed whether officers were actively pursuing the vehicle when the collision occurred.
No other vehicles were reported to be involved.
The fatal crash remains under investigation as officials work to identify the victims and establish the complete sequence of events.
