Nashville, TN – A stretch of sunny, comfortable fall weather is heading into Middle Tennessee this weekend, but residents should prepare for a sharp overnight temperature drop that could bring frost and freezing conditions to several communities by Sunday and Monday mornings.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, temperatures will remain relatively mild during the afternoon hours before dropping into the lower 30s overnight as cooler, drier air settles across the region.
The coldest mornings are expected Sunday and Monday.
Forecasters say several locations could experience their first significant frost of the season, with some communities potentially seeing an actual freeze.
Saturday afternoon highs are expected to range from 55 to 59 degrees, followed by overnight temperatures between 30 and 34 degrees.
Sunday brings abundant sunshine and highs between 59 and 63 degrees, but temperatures could again fall into the 30 to 36 degree range early Monday.
Communities throughout Middle Tennessee, including Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Columbia and surrounding rural areas, should monitor local temperature forecasts.
Locations outside major urban centers may be especially vulnerable to colder overnight conditions.
Residents should take precautions to protect sensitive vegetation.
Temperatures near or below 32 degrees can damage tender plants, particularly where frost develops during clear and calm overnight conditions.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to prepare for chilly mornings even as afternoon temperatures remain pleasant.
Looking ahead, Monday brings a warmer afternoon, with highs climbing between 64 and 69 degrees.
Tuesday remains mild, with temperatures reaching the middle to upper 60s.
Rain chances stay near zero through Tuesday, with only a slight chance of precipitation returning Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecasters expect the upcoming seven day stretch to remain generally dry and seasonably cool following the region's recent rainfall.
