Murfreesboro, TN – Rutherford County residents will have two opportunities to safely dispose of unwanted medications next week as local law enforcement and health organizations prepare for a communitywide Drug Take Back event Friday, October 23.
According to the Rutherford County Sheriff 's Office, the department is partnering with Prevention Coalition for Success and Murfreesboro Medical Clinic to provide two convenient medication drop off locations.
Both locations will accept unused solid form medications from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2026.
Residents can visit either of the following locations:
Murfreesboro Medical Clinic: 1272 Garrison Drive, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. Murfreesboro Medical Clinic Lascassas Pike : 2668 Lascassas Pike, Murfreesboro, TN 37130. The sheriff's office said residents can drop off eligible unused medications safely and anonymously for proper disposal.
However, officials emphasized that vapes will not be accepted at either location.
The event is designed to help prevent prescription drug misuse while reducing the risk of unwanted medications ending up in the wrong hands.
Proper disposal also provides households with a safer alternative to keeping unnecessary medications stored in cabinets, drawers or other accessible locations.
For residents unable to attend the October 23 event, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office also maintains a medication disposal box available year round.
Officials encouraged residents to take advantage of the upcoming collection opportunity to remove unwanted medications from their homes.
The initiative brings together local law enforcement, medical providers and prevention organizations to promote safer medication management throughout Rutherford County and the greater Murfreesboro area.
Residents planning to participate should remember that the collection is limited to solid form medications and that both temporary drop off sites close at 2 p.m.
