Memphis, TN – Parts of western Tennessee and northern Mississippi could receive several inches of rain this weekend as Tropical Storm Isaias moves into the Lower Mississippi Valley, bringing the potential for periods of heavy rainfall Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Isaias is expected to move into the Lower Mississippi Valley Saturday, spreading tropical moisture across the Mid South. Forecasters expect widespread rainfall of 1.5 to 2.5 inches , with localized totals reaching 4 inches .
Rain chances increase rapidly Saturday across communities surrounding Memphis and the broader Mid South.
The latest forecast shows Memphis with a 65% chance of rain Saturday afternoon and Saturday night . Higher probabilities are forecast elsewhere, including 85% in Paris, Tennessee , and 80% in Jackson, Bolivar and Union City .
In northern Mississippi, Tupelo reaches an 80% chance Saturday afternoon, while Corinth and Oxford climb to 75%. Rain chances also increase into northeastern Arkansas and southeastern Missouri.
The timing means Saturday travel and outdoor events could face disruptions, particularly where heavier bands of tropical rainfall develop.
Rain chances remain elevated into early Sunday before generally declining later in the day. The precise location of the heaviest rainfall will depend on Isaias' eventual track as the system moves inland and northward.
Residents across Memphis, Shelby County, western Tennessee and the surrounding Mid South should monitor updated forecasts heading into the weekend. Motorists should also be prepared for reduced visibility and water covered roads where heavier rainfall occurs.
