Tennessee drivers could encounter foggy roads during several upcoming morning commutes as temperatures swing dramatically across the Memphis area. Chilly conditions near 36 degrees will give way to afternoon highs approaching 70 degrees by Veterans Day.
The developing pattern brings an extended stretch of patchy fog, warmer afternoons and a small chance of midweek rain.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures should reach approximately 57 degrees Saturday afternoon. Partly sunny skies and north winds of 5 to 10 mph will accompany the cooler conditions.
Temperatures fall toward 36 degrees Saturday night, with patchy fog developing after 11 p.m.
Sunday Morning Fog Could Affect Memphis Area Drivers Sunday brings the first notable visibility concern.
Areas of fog are expected before 8 a.m., potentially affecting motorists across Shelby County and the greater Memphis metropolitan area.
Drivers traveling Interstate 40, Interstate 55 and Interstate 240 should remain alert for changing visibility.
Use low beam headlights, reduce speeds when necessary and maintain additional following distance.
Once the fog clears, sunshine should help temperatures rebound toward 66 degrees.
However, patchy fog returns after 10 p.m. Sunday, setting up another potentially foggy commute Monday.
Monday and Tuesday Bring Warmer Temperatures Monday morning could bring additional visibility restrictions, with areas of fog expected before 10 a.m.
Conditions improve as sunshine returns and temperatures climb toward 68 degrees.
Tuesday brings another warm afternoon, with highs near 69 degrees.
Patchy fog remains possible before 8 a.m., making this the third consecutive morning with fog potential.
The temperature difference is significant.
Memphis could experience a 34 degree spread between Saturday night's projected low and Wednesday afternoon's high.
Veterans Day Brings 70 Degrees and Rain Chances Wednesday, Veterans Day, brings mostly sunny skies and temperatures approaching 70 degrees.
However, a 20% chance of showers develops after noon, with another 20% chance before midnight Wednesday night.
The rainfall threat remains limited, with no significant accumulation indicated.
No snow, tornadoes or severe thunderstorms are forecast in the supplied Memphis outlook.
By Thursday, temperatures retreat toward 63 degrees before Friday brings a cooler high near 54 degrees.
The late week cooldown offers a reminder that November weather can change quickly.
Residents should use warmer afternoons to clear fallen leaves, secure outdoor belongings and prepare for colder conditions later this month.
