Memphis, TN – Rain is expected to return to the Mid South this Halloween weekend, potentially ending a prolonged stretch of dry weather across western Tennessee, northern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas. However, forecasters warn the anticipated rainfall is unlikely to provide meaningful relief from ongoing drought conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, warm and dry conditions will continue through late this week before shower chances increase Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1.
The changing weather pattern could affect Halloween celebrations, outdoor gatherings and weekend travel throughout the region.
In Memphis, precipitation chances rise from 15% early Saturday to 35% around midday and 40% Saturday evening.
By Sunday morning, rain chances increase to approximately 50% before gradually decreasing through the afternoon and evening.
Nearby communities face similar conditions.
Jackson, Tennessee, has a 40% chance of rain Saturday evening, increasing to 55% Sunday morning.
In northern Mississippi, Tupelo faces a 35% chance Saturday evening and a 50% chance Sunday morning. Oxford could see precipitation probabilities reach 45% Sunday morning.
Across eastern Arkansas, Jonesboro's rain chances climb to 45% Saturday evening and remain elevated into Sunday.
Despite the increasing likelihood of showers, rainfall totals are generally expected to remain below one inch through Sunday.
The National Weather Service estimates only a 20% to 30% chance of rainfall totals reaching or exceeding one inch across the forecast area.
Forecasters emphasize that the expected precipitation will not be enough to alleviate the severe to exceptional drought conditions affecting portions of the Mid South.
Residents planning outdoor Halloween activities should monitor updated forecasts as the timing and coverage of showers become clearer.
