Memphis, TN – Residents across the Mid South should prepare for showers and thunderstorms Tuesday evening, Nov. 3, as a deep low pressure system moves toward the region. A few storms could produce isolated severe wind gusts, particularly along and west of the Mississippi River.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Level 1 out of 5 marginal risk for severe thunderstorms covers portions of the Mid South Tuesday, with damaging winds identified as the primary concern and heavy downpours listed as a secondary threat.
Severe Storms Possible Tuesday Evening The approaching low pressure system is expected to bring increasing shower and thunderstorm activity late Tuesday, with the greatest concern for isolated severe weather during the evening hours.
Forecasters indicate that storms will generally move from southwest to northeast across the region.
The highest local severe weather risk is concentrated along and west of the Mississippi River, including portions of eastern Arkansas.
Communities near Jonesboro, Paragould, West Memphis and other locations across eastern Arkansas should remain alert for changing conditions.
Memphis and surrounding Shelby County communities could also experience thunderstorms, although the highest severe weather potential is focused farther west.
Damaging Winds Are Primary Threat The National Weather Service warns that isolated strong to severe wind gusts could accompany Tuesday evening's thunderstorms.
Heavy downpours are also possible, potentially reducing visibility and creating wet road conditions during evening travel.
The Level 1 marginal risk indicates that isolated severe storms are possible, rather than a widespread severe weather outbreak.
No specific damaging wind speeds or tornado threat were identified in the outlook.
Residents Encouraged to Monitor Warnings Motorists traveling along Interstate 40, Interstate 55 and other major Mid South highways should monitor weather conditions Tuesday evening.
Residents should have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and identify a safe shelter location if severe thunderstorms develop.
Forecast timing and risk areas could change as the system approaches.
