Memphis, TN – The remnants of Hurricane Isaias are expected to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall across portions of the Mid South Saturday, Oct. 10, with gusts potentially reaching 45 mph and localized flooding possible through early Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Flood Watch is in effect for portions of the region east of the Mississippi River from 1 a.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday.
Forecasters expect widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 2.5 inches, with locally higher amounts potentially reaching 3.5 inches, mainly across northeastern Mississippi.
Heavy rainfall could produce flooding in urban and low lying areas, particularly where repeated downpours develop.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for portions of northeastern Mississippi, including the Aberdeen area, where tropical storm force wind gusts are anticipated.
The warning remains in effect through 7 p.m. Saturday, with impacts expected to begin after midnight Friday.
Sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts exceeding 40 mph are forecast in the warned area.
Elsewhere, a Wind Advisory covers much of the Memphis forecast area from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with sustained winds exceeding 25 mph and gusts over 40 mph possible.
The weather service warned that gusty conditions could blow around unsecured outdoor objects and create driving difficulties for high profile vehicles.
Although the remnants of Isaias are expected to affect much of the Mid South, the strongest winds and heaviest rainfall will not necessarily occur in the same communities.
Forecasters emphasized that uncertainty remains regarding the storm's precise impacts.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items, maintain multiple ways to receive weather warnings and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
The most significant weather impacts are expected Saturday, with the Flood Watch continuing into early Sunday morning as the remnants move through the region.
