Knox County, TN – A school bus was struck during a three vehicle crash involving two pickup trucks Monday morning near Knoxville, prompting a response from the Knox County Sheriff 's Office. Authorities say no students were reported injured, although both pickup trucks sustained significant damage.
According to an October 26 update from the Knox County Sheriff's Office, deputies assigned to the David Shift and Tango Units responded to the crash near the intersection of Mine Road and Rutledge Pike.
Preliminary findings indicate that a black Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on Rutledge Pike when its driver allegedly failed to yield the right of way while attempting to turn left at the intersection.
The Silverado collided with a white pickup truck traveling eastbound.
Following the initial impact, the black Silverado spun and struck a school bus that was stationary at the intersection, waiting to turn westbound onto Rutledge Pike.
Investigators reported that the school bus sustained minor damage, while both pickup trucks suffered significant damage and required towing from the scene.
Despite the involvement of a school bus, authorities said initial reports indicated that no students were injured in the collision.
Any injuries sustained by the pickup truck drivers were believed to be minor, according to the sheriff's office.
Officials did not disclose how many students were aboard the bus or identify the drivers involved.
The sheriff's office also did not announce whether any traffic citations had been issued.
The collision occurred along Rutledge Pike, a major roadway serving communities northeast of Knoxville, including portions of eastern Knox County.
Motorists traveling through the Mine Road intersection should remain attentive to traffic conditions, although authorities did not announce an ongoing road closure in the update.
The sheriff's office described its findings as preliminary, and additional details about the collision were not provided.
